Kanye West

Everyone knows what happened so I don't need to go over it again. However I think the public reaction towards Kanye was so over the top. West was an idiot, everyone with half a brain knows that, but the punishment he is receiving does not fit the crime. People are calling for an all-out boycott of West's music and this is so ridiculous I cannot even fathom it. Kanye west is an egocentric prick, we all know that, but his music is positive, non-violent, and has a message. If we chose our music based on what artists do outside the studio we would all be listening to Gospel music. There are artists like Lil Wayne and 50 Cent that have built their careers around violent music and degrading lyrics and we embrace them. 50 Cent takes steroids, Lil Wayne has outstanding gun charges, Amy Winehouse has huge substance abuse problems, TI has done prison time, Eminem raps about killing and raping his mother and ex-wife. Yet, those are the qualities of those artists that we like, even embrace. It's the wrong message for kids. You can make positive music that kids can listen to but you can't speak your mind, even if he's wrong and did it in the wrong way, he's speaking his mind. He did not realize that it would come back this hard after watching the video. When he saw how sad she was it took him by surprise and you can see it in his face when he gave the microphone back. He's apologized over and over and he clearly feels awful about it. So what as a society do we want? Ignorant violent musicians with problems that are dangerous not only to them but to the rest of us, or positive musicians who make harmless mistakes? Go ahead and boycott Kanye, but it's the wrong thing to do, think about what you'd rather have your kids listen to.
